When you run a colored pencil across a page, the pigment core breaks into tiny particles that stick onto microscopic ridges on the paper. These ridges are called "teeth", and the amount of tooth a page has directly affects how much pigment can be applied to it. Pages with a lot of tooth have deep ridges that can be filled with more pigment. As a result, less whiteness shows through, and the colors appear bolder and richer.
Coloring a great coloring book is as close to perfect, unfettered “me” time as you can get, but sometimes it is reinvigorating to watch someone else color and see what you can learn. Every artist has a different style, and incorporating a few new ideas into your pages works wonders for recapturing the thrill of creating.
I also quite like to encourage people to add to the actual drawing with their own drawing, rather than just colouring. On some pages I have recreated a much more empty, less detailed version of the drawing on the opposite page. So people are encouraged to either colour or fill in their own patterns and textures.
